If I Could Walk Tomorrow - A Reflection of all the Things We Take ...

How many times have you heard a television personality on a telethon or even your own doctor tell you the unexpected could happen to you? You hear it all the time as non-profit organizations try to raise money. Cancer can strike anyone at any time. Diabetes, stroke, heart disease, Parkinson’s, muscular dystrophy, the list goes on and on. It does not matter who you are, how much money you have, how old you are, or where you are from. Any of these ailments could strike you or a loved one and change your life in an instant. One day you could wake up and have some sort of life limitation. For all intents and purposes, you could wake up tomorrow, get in a car accident, and become a paraplegic or quadriplegic. The truth is we do not know what the future holds because we do not have a crystal ball that we can peer into on a regular basis.

Getting back to basics

His career as a professional hockey player had stalled and Duncan Milroy knew he had to do something to jump start it again.

So when Hamilton Bulldogs head coach Don Lever suggested to him at the end of last year that the best thing he could do to impress the Montreal Canadiens was to start by getting in the best shape of his life, Milroy took the message to heart.

The 23-year-old Edmonton native spent two months this summer in St. Louis working with the Blues strength and conditioning coach Nelson Ayotte.

His weight is down about eight pounds but Milroy has added muscle and reduced his body fat by about 4 per cent.

The new, svelte, Duncan Milroy says he feels better both as a person and as a hockey player.

"That's the reason he got in a game in Montreal during training camp," said Lever, who feels that Milroy has to continue to build on his apparent new commitment to his career.

For Florida State, nowhere to run

MIAMI - Florida State entered this season promising to improve upon one of its worst campaigns ever running the football.

It will have to wait at least one more game to see any significant results.

Despite rallying to beat rival Miami, 13-10, on Monday night at the Orange Bowl, the Seminoles' backs found little room to run compiling only 1 yard on 25 carries against a stingy Miami defense.

Its longest run of the game: a 5-yard scramble by sophomore quarterback Drew Weatherford in the fourth quarter. Its leading rusher: sophomore Antone Smith with 5 yards on nine carries.

Last season, FSU finished last in the Atlantic Coast Conference in rushing, averaging only 94.0 yards per game and compiling 1,222 yards for the season. The dismal output ranked 109th overall among NCAA Division I-A teams.
